Can someone help me think of a christmas gift idea?

If you can sew, why not make each of your siblings hand made photo quilts. If you have ever seen the movie Step Mom, they have a great example of it. or if you can't sew , who about scrapbook photo album for each one. Hopefully you have a lot of photos to make either one work. Plus you will have fun with either one of those projects. Plus it comes from the heart. You took the time to make it with your own hands. You could get a photo album or scrap book and decorate it really pretty. You could add some of the stickers that say little things. start it off with a few family photos. My sister made me a scrap book one year. we are a family of eight. For each child she had a hand written story about them and a page full of their pictures. To this day it is still one of my favorite presents.

Homemade bath salts... Epsom salts, essential oil or perfume, possibly some food coloring and glycerin. Mix together and put in a pretty jar. You can make a "candy cane variety" by layering untinted salts with red tinted salts.

Polar fleece scarf... similar to your knotted fringe blanket idea, take a 1/4 of a yard of polar fleece, cut up the ends about 2-3 inches up vertically and about 2 inches wide, then knot each strip.

For our tree we basically do the same thing as you, now we use white lights but in the past we have used multicolored ones, we have always put gold garland on it that looks like this:

Having multicolored lights leaves you lots of possibilities for decorating. you could go with one theme of colors, like silver or gold, or you could use different colors (the colors of the lights). There are some nice, cheap, basic glass ball ornaments that you can find in stores like Walmart or another place like that. even though they are cheap, the ornaments might last longer than you expect. I know that I've bought cheapo ornaments, and they've lasted me for quite a few years now. Personally, I don't like to overload my Christmas tree with garlands. I think that strands of beads (silver or gold) make the tree look nice and aren't too big and obnoxious. regarding the tree-topper: you can find many different kinds of tree-toppers in a lot of different stores, and many of them are quite nice (even if they are cheap). Personally, if I have multicolored lights on the tree, I like to have a tree-topper that is fiberoptic. those ones are pretty cheap, look really nice, and go through the whole color spectrum. So, you get all of your colors in one! They are actually pretty cool.

Wow I just learned a new word. Thank you. I like to shop year round also to avoid using the credit cards. I usually save money during the year to pick up all my christmas things but when I see a really good sale I will pick things up and put them away. the thought of paying for something after you've already gave it as a gift just doesn't make sense to me.

Same here, pay cash on all present purchases. I wouldn't want to use layby because of the obligation it may create later. seems much more sane to simply wait and pay all at once.
